Esperanto Studies

I seek to understand the ontology of Esperanto as a linguistic and political project throughout its history. Esperanto is a constructed international auxiliary language. I am specifically interested in Esperanto's relationship to other political movements (globalization, zionism, antisemitism, anarchism, religious movements, etc.) and the development of philosophical frameworks within Esperanto (raŭmismo, finvekismo, ĝiismo, GLATejo, sennaciismo, ktp.).

I have limited reading ability in Esperanto. My scholarship on Esperanto studies is grounded in close readings of historical texts. I work with online and physical archival materials in and about Esperanto, drawing from critical archival and historiographic methodologies. Much of my work is done at The Wagnalls Memorial Library in Lithopolis, Ohio, which used to be a hot spot for Esperanto.
